30-Year-Old Man Killed in Thursday Night Shooting on St. Croix; VIPD Launches Investigation

Kysian Nicholas, 30, was found unresponsive in a parking lot near Glynn Midland Road following multiple ShotSpotter alerts and 911 calls. The VIPD has launched an investigation and urges the public to share any information that could assist detectives.

ST. CROIX — The V.I. Police Department has confirmed the death of 30-year-old Kysian Nicholas, who was fatally shot Thursday evening near Glynn Midland Road, in the vicinity of Crab Queen.

According to VIPD Director of Communications Glen Dratte, at approximately 7:19 p.m. on April 17, the 911 emergency call center received multiple ShotSpotter alerts followed by several calls from the public reporting gunfire in the area. Soon after, additional calls came in reporting that a male was lying motionless on the ground in a nearby parking lot.

Units from the VIPD along with forensic investigators and emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered an unresponsive male, later identified by next of kin as Kysian Nicholas, lying in the parking lot. Medical personnel confirmed that he had succumbed to his injuries.

The incident is now under active investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB).

The VIPD is urging anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or has information about the incident to come forward. Members of the public can contact the CIB at (340) 778-2211, call Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-TIPS, or dial 911.

Authorities have not yet disclosed further details about the possible motive or suspects, and no arrests have been announced at this time.
