ST. THOMAS — A deadly shooting early Thursday morning has left a 28-year-old man dead, following a series of emergency calls that began with reports of a hit-and-run incident in the Oswald Harris Court housing community.
Glen Dratte, the VIPD’s director of communications, confirmed that at approximately 2:48 a.m. on Thursday, the Criminal Investigation Bureau received a 911 call from a male reporting a hit-and-run collision near Oswald Harris Court (OHC). Moments later, additional calls came in reporting gunshots fired in the same area.
Patrol officers responded swiftly, arriving on the scene to discover a Black male lying unresponsive. The man had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his body. He was transported by emergency personnel to the Schneider Regional Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The victim has since been identified by next of kin as Shyiane Degallerie, a 28-year-old male.
The territory has experienced 17 total homicides for the year: 9 on St. Croix and 8 on St. Thomas, according to Mr. Dratte.
As of now, no arrests have been made and the identity of the suspect or suspects remains unknown. The Major Crimes Unit of the VIPD is actively investigating the case and urges the public to come forward with any information that may assist in solving the homicide.
