ST. CROIX - A 24-year-old man has been taken into custody following an alleged attempted murder at the Level Up Service Station in Estate Hogenborg, Frederiksted on Wednesday, according to the V.I. Police Department.

The report identified the suspect as Mitchell Mack Webber Jr. from Williams Delight. Police stated that they responded to a call about a shooting at around 2:20 p.m. at the gas station on Wednesday.

Upon arrival, emergency services found one male individual with a gunshot wound in the lower body. The injured man was immediately transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital and rushed into surgery. He is currently listed in serious but guarded condition.

The VIPD's investigation has revealed that prior to the shooting, a verbal dispute broke out between Webber and the victim. According to witnesses, Webber had started to leave the service station after the argument. However, he then turned around, approached the victim, and fired a shot, which resulted in the injury.

The suspect was then seen leaving the scene with his dog, walking towards the Williams Delight area. Multiple security systems captured images of Webber during the incident and his subsequent escape, according to the VIPD.

In cooperation with Webber's family, the VIPD was able to make contact and Webber subsequently turned himself in without incident. He was transported to the Criminal Investigation Bureau, where he was read his rights but declined to provide a statement.

Following his arrest, a bail amount of $100,000 was set for Webber. Unable to post his bail, he was remanded to the John Bell Correctional Facility. He is due to appear for an Advice of Rights Hearing at the Superior Court on August 4.

The VIPD continues its investigation into this incident and encourages anyone with information related to the case to come forward.
