ST. CROIX — A 21-year-old man was fatally shot near the Superior Court on St. Croix Monday afternoon, marking the island’s 18th homicide of 2026 and the 31st across the U.S. Virgin Islands this year. St. Thomas has recorded 13 homicides.
The V.I. Police Department identified the victim as Angel Rodriguez III after notification of his next of kin.
According to VIPD Director of Communications Glen Dratte, the St. Croix 911 Emergency Call Center received several reports of shots fired at the Superior Court at approximately 2:06 p.m. Monday.
Callers reported that a male victim had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
When officers arrived, they found Rodriguez unresponsive inside a vehicle at the parking lot entrance. Emergency Medical Services personnel responded and confirmed that he had died from his injuries.
The Criminal Investigation Bureau is actively investigating the shooting as a homicide.
