ST. CROIX — A 21-year-old man, Emeka Watson, has been arrested and charged with burglary and destruction of property after he reportedly broke into a woman's home by smashing her window and damaging her front door with a car battery.

According to the V.I.P.D., the incident occurred in Bonne Esperance on July 17 around 8:30 p.m., when police were alerted to the reported burglary. The victim told officers that Watson, an acquaintance, had broken into her home and even attempted to assault her while inside. Watson managed to escape from the scene prior to the police's arrival.

Watson turned himself in to police the following day, July 18, at the Criminal Investigation Bureau situated in the Rainbow Police Administration Building. He was promptly charged with second-degree burglary and destruction of property.

As per the guidelines set by the domestic violence law, no bail was set for Watson. Following his processing, he was transported to the John Bell Correctional Facility to await his advice of rights hearing at the Superior Court.
