ST. CROIX — An 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder for allegedly shooting at individuals who had left a location to prevent further escalation of an argument, the V.I. Police Department has announced.

According to V.I.P.D. Director of Communications Glen Dratte, on November 15, 2021, the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report at 9:28p.m. of shots fired in the vicinity of the Barren Spot Village Mall.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau, Major Crime Unit were assigned to conduct a follow up investigation.

The investigation revealed there was an argument at the Super Tank Service Station in Estate Diamond Ruby between the two shooting victims and suspect Tyrique Parris, age 18. According to the V.I.P.D., the victims got into their vehicle and left the area to avoid Parris, however, Parris got into his vehicle, pursued them and opened fire on the victims while they were driving near the Barren Spot Village Mall.

An arrest warrant was sought and approved by Magistrate Judge Yolan Brow Ross of the Superior Court on May 25, 2022. On June 28, Parris was present at the Wilbur H. Francis Command Police Station where he turned himself in, the V.I.P.D. said.

Parris was placed under arrest and charged with first-degree attempted murder, possession of a dangerous weapon during the commission of a crime of violence, and aiming and discharging a weapon.

Unable to post bail of $100,000, Parris was remanded to the John A. Bell Correctional Facility pending his advisement hearing, which has been set for Wednesday at the Superior Court on St. Croix.
