The La Reine Shopping Center Parking Lot during the wee hours of Sunday morning following a shooting incident that left a man and a woman injured.
ST. CROIX — The 18-year-old female who was shot in the chin during an entertainment event in the parking lot of the La Reine Shopping Center was flown out of the territory Sunday evening to receive further medical attention, the V.I. Police Department has confirmed to the Consortium.
According to V.I.P.D. Director of Communications Glen Dratte, the victim, who was shot during the early-morning hours of Sunday during an event called "The Return of Tsunami 4: The Ultimate Wet Fete", was still "hanging in there" as of Tuesday, however when she was shot in the chin the bullet traveled to her neck, indicating that extensive and serious surgery needs to be performed on the victim.
The male victim who was also shot during the incident and sustained a gunshot would to his upper-right shoulder, is a minor, according to Mr. Dratte. The minor was treated for his wounds at the Juan F. Luis Hospital.
Event promoter TGOD Promotions issued a statement on social media expressing regret at what occurred. The company said the incident "left us all with heavy hearts, saddened by what took place even after crossing all T’s and dotting all i’s."
Even so, TGOD said Tsunami 4 was "definitely one for the books! The energy was amazing and the performances were perfect! We always aim to please and make sure that our patrons leave completely satisfied."
The 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched officers to the scene at about 1:46 a.m. Sunday. A preliminary investigation revealed that shots were discharged during the event, striking both victims, according to police. Mr. Dratte said the incident remains under active investigation.
No suspect has been identified, police said.
