Mr. Wilkes had decided to stay in Nevis longer than originally planned to attend the island's popular Culturama event, this year's showcase being the 43rd annual.

The crime is said to have occurred between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.  “He was found tied up on the road. He is in a mess in hospital. His face is swollen and he has lost his teeth,” said the family member. The incident was reported by multiple Nevis news outlets.
