Man Caught On Camera Stealing Laptop From Business

ST. THOMAS -- A man was caught on camera stealing a laptop from an establishment in St. Thomas on Wednesday, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced Thursday.

The suspect, 26-year-old Derrick Johnson, after being contacted by law enforcement on Wednesday at about 5:30 p.m., admitted to stealing the device while stating he would return it. He was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing after failing to make bail of $20,000.

The report was made by the owner of the business at about 4:11 p.m. Wednesday, according to Mr. Dratte. The business owner said when he realized that the laptop was missing, he was prompted to review his surveillance cameras, and observed the suspect removing the laptop from the establishment and carrying it away.
