The Virgin Islands Police Department on Tuesday alerted the community of a scheme to use fraudulent credits cards that is ongoing in the territory, hoping that residents will be careful with their own credit cards' security.
According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte, on Monday members of the force's Economic Crime Unit were notified of a plot to use fraudulent credit cards at the business places on Main Street in St. Thomas.
Upon arrival, contact was made with several store owners who stated that they became suspicious when two males and a female attempted to purchase high-end merchandise with credit cards that were not properly authorized.
Mr. Dratte said these individuals presented credit cards to businesses and provided their own verification codes to authorize the purchase after their cards were declined.
The V.I.P.D. is asking the public to be extra vigilant and notify 911, the ECU unit at (340-774-2211), or Crime Stoppers USVI here, if you suspect any fraudulent transactions are taking place.
