Corrections Officer Arrested For Bringing Contraband Into Prison

ST. CROIX -- A man was arrested on Thursday and charged with promoting prison contraband and introduction of narcotics or addictive drug into the prison, after he was caught with prison contraband at the Golden Grove Correctional Facility, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced Sunday afternoon.

According to Mr. Dratte, Bureau of Corrections supervisors called 911 to report the incident. The V.I.P.D.'s K-9 unit responded to the matter, examined the substance, and confirmed it to be marijuana, according to police. The incident occurred at about 2:10 p.m. on Thursday, Mr. Dratte said. The suspect was identified as Darren Giddings, 35, seen above.

Mr. Giddings was able to post 10 percent of a $10,000 bail total, Mr. Dratte said.
