The V.I. Dept. of Health has announced the 125th death in the U.S. Virgin Islands tied to Covid-19 since the virus began impacting the territory in 2020.
"After further investigating cause of death and ensuring notification of next of kin, the Virgin Islands Department of Health is saddened to confirm the territory’s one hundred and twenty-fifth (125th) death related to Covid-19. The deceased is an 84-year-old male on St. Thomas," the department said in a release issued Tuesday evening.
D.O.H. said it continues to work to slow the spread of Covid-19 and is encouraging the public to become fully vaccinated and boosted.
"Residents are also urged to remember to follow all precautionary measures by practicing social distancing around persons with whom you do not reside, wearing a mask in crowded public areas, washing your hands often with soap and warm water, and cleaning frequently used areas thoroughly," the local health authority said.
As of Tuesday there were 34 active cases territory-wide: 26 on St. Croix, 7 in St. Thomas and 1 on St. John, according to D.O.H.
