Sports, Parks and Recreation Suspends All Sports and Recreation Programs, Halts Rental of Facilities Amid Coronavirus Outbreak

In light of the COVID-19 public health crisis, the Department of Sports, Parks, and Recreation (DSPR) said Monday that it has taken preventative measures in alignment with the Department of Health’s recommendations to help protect and continue to serve the community.

These protocols include:

  • Augmented facility hours territory-wide are 8:00 am – 5:00 pm until further notice.
  • Effective immediately, all DSPR sport and recreation programs have been suspended until further notice. This includes any sporting activity or event coordinated by DSPR or held at a DSPR facility.
  • All after-school programs (DSPR ran or after-school partnerships) are suspended for three weeks beginning on Wednesday, March 18, 2020.
  • Suspended the rental of our facilities to minimize exposure to the COVID-19 virus. Applications will not be accepted until we resume regular business practices. Facilities that have been rented within the next 60 days, please call the main office to reschedule; 340-773-0160 St. Croix or 340-774- 0255 St. Thomas.

 

 

According to John Hopkins University, the coronavirus as of Monday has infected 181,377 people worldwide. It has killed 7,119 people and 78,085 have recovered from the pathogen.

The USVI so far has had  total to 21 suspected cases: three negatives, two confirmed positive, and 16 pending.
