A number of government offices are being impacted by Covid-19 either through exposure or infections, incidents that have led to temporary closures mostly in St. Thomas.
Among the recent closures:
The V.I. Bureau of Motor Vehicles St. Thomas office (Closed since Wednesday until further notice)
B.M.V. stated, "The employees were exposed to the Covid-19 virus, therefore it is important that we ensure that they are tested and safe before we reopen the office. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause; however, this is a major concern, and it is imperative that we protect our employees, their loved ones, and the wider Virgin Islands community. We hope to resume our regular hours of operations shortly. We encourage you to continue to practice social distancing and all other Covid-19 related precautionary measures."
Bureau of Internal Revenue Nisky Center Office in St. Thomas (Closed Thursday until further notice)
B.I.R. stated, "Taxpayers needing cashier services are asked to visit the Red Hook office for assistance. Excise tax clearances will continue via the online excise tax portal. Director Lee thanks all taxpayers for their patience and understanding during this time."
V.I. Fire Services St. Thomas Offices
V.I.F.S. said, "The Virgin Islands Fire Service advises the public that its Prevention and Administrative Offices on St. Thomas will be temporarily closed in compliance with Covid-19 protocols. Normal operations will resume at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, August 16, 2021. This closure will not impact the agency’s emergency operations."
Elsewhere, the V.I. Dept. of Health's Environmental Health Office at the Knud Hansen Complex will be closed through August 18, though D.O.H. didn't say why in its release.
"The St. Thomas Division of Environmental Health office at the Knud Hansen Complex on St. Thomas will be closed until Wednesday, August 18th. No health cards or health permits will be processed at that location until their reopening," stated the release.
