ST. THOMAS — The V.I. Dept. of Health on Tuesday announced the territory's latest Covid-19 death, bringing total fatalities related to the virus in the USVI so far to twenty-eight.

D.O.H. said an 85-year-old St. Thomas woman became the latest victim to succumb to the virus. "After further investigating cause of death and ensuring notification of next of kin, the Virgin Islands Department of Health is saddened to confirm the territory’s twenty eighth death related to Covid-19," the health department said. "The deceased is an 85-year old female on St. Thomas."

D.O.H. said it continues to work to slow the spread of Covid-19, and provided guidelines to protect against the virus.

St. Thomas has been battling a recent surge in Covid-19, accounting for a vast majority of the U.S. Virgin Islands' total cases. According to the V.I. Dept. of Health's latest data as of May 27 showing 120 active cases, ten were confirmed on St. Croix, eight on St. John and 102 on St. Thomas.
