The V.I. Dept. of Health on Wednesday announced the 108th death in the USVI related to Covid-19, one day after announcing the 107th.

"After further investigating cause of death and ensuring notification of next of kin, the Virgin Islands Department of Health is saddened to confirm the territory’s one hundred and eighth (108th) death related to COVID-19. The deceased is an 88-year-old female on St. Croix," D.O.H. said.

The latest death comes as cases continue to decline in the territory. According to D.O.H., there were 212 active infections territory-wide as of Tuesday: 128 on St. Croix, 83 on St. Thomas, and 1 on St. John. The seven-day positivity rate stood at 5.38 percent.

Governor Albert Bryan has told the Consortium that March 1 will herald a new day in the USVI, where most Covid-19 restrictions — save the mask mandate and Travel Portal requirements — will be no more.

"We are working on a plan that should have most restrictions except mask [mandate] and [the USVI Travel] Portal gone by March 1," Mr. Bryan said. "This would include all government employees returning to work and all schools going to full schedule."
