The V.I. Dept. of Health has announced the 100th and 101st deaths related to Covid-19 in the territory.
"After further investigating cause of death and ensuring notification of next of kin, the Virgin Islands Department of Health is saddened to confirm the territory’s one hundredth and one hundred-first deaths related to COVID-19. The deceased are a 68-year-old male on St. Croix and a 74-year-old male on St. Thomas," the department said Monday afternoon.
Meanwhile, Covid-19 cases continue to fall as the Omicron surge of the pandemic wanes following record-shattering infections early January, when cases neared 4,000 and the 7-day positivity rate rose above 24 percent.
According to the V.I. Dept. of Health, as of Monday there were 525 active infections territory-wide, with St. Croix accounting for 315 of those cases, followed by St. Thomas with 178, and St. John with 32. The 7-day positivity was 3.80 percent.
Governor Albert Bryan told the Consortium Sunday he would lift restrictions put in place late December to fight the Omicron surge, and revert to an executive order established in October. See details here.
