The V.I. Consortium is correcting the record after its journalists misread Covid-19 data posted by the V.I. Dept. of Health on Friday.

The data was misread because it was published in a new format by the health department, which separated new cases from total cases. Consortium journalists misread the new cases as total cases and said total active infections had drastically declined to just over 30 territory-wide. That number, however, represented new infections, while total infections were in the hundreds.

According to the latest data posted Tuesday, there were 308 active cases territory-wide, with St. Croix accounting for the bulk of those cases with 237, followed by St. Thomas with 70, and St. John with 1. The territory's seven-day positivity rate stood at 8.20 percent.
