With confirmed coronavirus cases surging in the U.S. Virgin Islands — moving from only three cases to 29 in a month — Governor Albert Bryan will update the territory's residents on his administration's response to the outbreak on Monday at 1 p.m. The press event can be watched live on our website or Facebook platform.
Since his last press briefing on Thursday, the territory moved from tracking 11 active cases to 29, with 20 positive cases being confirmed at Limetree Bay, where Mr. Bryan has since ordered employees residing in the Man Camp not to leave the premises.
The governor told the Consortium late Thursday afternoon that new travel restrictions announced earlier that day will be fully unveiled on Monday, giving his administration enough time over the weekend to complete language that will govern the new protocols.
During his coronavirus response update press briefing earlier Thursday afternoon, Mr. Bryan said travelers coming into the territory will need to produce a negative coronavirus result from a test performed within the last 72 hours. If visitors fail to perform a test within the last 72 hours before arriving to the USVI, they will be given the option to be tested locally, or face a mandatory 14-day quarantine. The governor said a list of states on which the restrictions apply was being organized. "Most definitely Texas is one of them, and Florida, as they are certainly starting to spike at this point," Mr. Bryan said.
