Governor Albert Bryan is seeking an extension to the state of emergency declaration, citing the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the government's response effort.
The legislation for the proposed extension was forwarded to Senate President Donna Frett-Gregory on May 1 requesting a 60-day extension to the current state of emergency, which was originally declared in March 2020 during the onset of the pandemic.
The current state of emergency extension is set to expire on Friday, and Mr. Bryan is requesting an extension to remain in effect until July 6, 2021, according to Gov't House.
By law, the 34th Legislature has five days to consider Governor Bryan’s request or the extension automatically goes into effect for an additional 30 days if the Senate takes no action on the proposal.
