Government House has announced that Governor Albert Bryan will hold the second annual Territorial Day of Prayer service for protection against Covid-19 and for the well-being of all Virgin Islanders as the territory continues to be impacted by the corona virus pandemic.

The event will be held on Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and will feature faith leaders of various houses of worship in the USVI, said Gov't House. The event will air Live on Government Access Channel 27 and on the Government House’s Facebook page.  Lt. Governor Tregenza Roach and First Lady Yolanda Bryan will also participate in the event, the administration said.

“It is never lost on me how important our faith and belief systems are to giving us strength to meet the challenges and crises we face every day. There is nothing more powerful than our collective prayer for fortitude and healing,” Mr. Bryan said. “While the Bryan-Roach Administration has done well in terms of testing and vaccinating individuals, the fight is far from over. We must go beyond our initial goal of 50,000 vaccinations to get our lives back in a meaningful way, and it is going to take all of us doing our civic duty to get there.”

In February, the governor set a goal of 50,000 individuals vaccinated by July 2021 to begin reaching herd immunity. Last week, the number of individuals vaccinated passed the 30,000 mark. The territory is now on the final stretch of its initial goal for 50,000 people vaccinated by July, according to Gov't House. Additionally, the VI Department of Health has tested more than 91,000 individuals for the virus since testing began in April 2020. To date, 26 residents have lost their lives due to Covid-19.

As part of the Territorial Day of Prayer, on Wednesday, April 14, Mr. Roach will host faith leaders and the Department of Health’s leadership team for an hour of fellowship and conversation about Covid-19, the vaccines now available to the territory and the administration’s efforts to reach community immunity.

The event will air live from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., on Government House’s Facebook page and on Government Access Channel 27.

Since March 2020, the USVI has been under a public health state of emergency to help quell the spread of Covid-19. Mr. Bryan has issued 22 executive orders to manage the pandemic which included creating a phased system to move the territory to a new Covid normal, Gov't House said.
