AARP in the Virgin Islands said Monday it is actively involved in the monitoring of the Coronavirus-COVID 19 and the recent developments at the local level in particular. AARP VI said it has been working to provide and share information to AARP VI Members as well as the local communities and Virgin Islanders on recommendations, guidelines and measures that are being implemented to prevent the spread of the virus as the local VI Government shares it.
"We also continue to communicate and share national news as it is released from our national office. We ask all our members and Virgin Islanders to continue to visit our local Facebook page – AARP Virgin Islands or Facebook.com/aaprvi , to follow us on Twitter: Twitter.com/aarpvi , and our local web page aarp.org/vi to obtain the latest information on what we are doing locally," AARP VI said.
The nonprofit's local operation has canceled its external events until further notice. While convening events is a core part of our mission, AARP VI said it has changed its approach in light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
"At AARP, we have been promoting the health and well-being of older Americans for over 60 years. Our top priority is the health and well-being of staff, volunteers, members and the community at large," the organization said. "We are monitoring developments closely and are taking precautions recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local public health agencies.
