ST. CROIX — After announcing Thursday morning that the 911 Emergency Call Center on St. Croix would reopen Thursday after being temporarily closed on Tuesday due to Covid, the V.I. Territorial Emergency Management Agency (VITEMA) announced Thursday night that the call center was shutting down again after three additional employees tested positive for the coronavirus.

This brings to four the total number of dispatchers/operators at the center who have tested positive since Tuesday. VITEMA said all 911 calls on St. Croix will be routed through the St. Thomas 911 Call Center and will be entered into a computer-aided dispatch, or CAD system, the agency said.

VITEMA said the V.I. Dept. of Health performed contact tracing and implemented quarantine measures to address what the agency said was an outbreak.

VITEMA urged residents to continue contacting 911 for all emergencies, and provided the direct contact numbers for St. Croix residents for the Virgin Islands Police Department, the Virgin Islands Fire Service and Virgin Islands EMS.
