The number of coronavirus cases reported in the USVI on Wednesday night saw a steep drop from a day earlier, with the Dept. of Health reporting 6 cases territory-wide: 2 on St. Croix and 4 in St. Thomas. A day before, the department reported 26 new cases: 16 on St. Croix, 8 in St. Thomas and 2 on St. John.
In the latest infographic, St. John remained unchanged at 9 cases with 5 actives. The 4 new cases in St. Thomas were transmitted through a mix of either close contact, travel or community spread, as D.O.H.'s latest infographic includes in the risk factor categories prior investigated cases that were later determined. Even so, travel-related cases represented 31 of the 74 total cases in St. Thomas, where D.O.H. is tracking 28 actives. Forty-four people have recovered, according to the data.
On St. Croix, the two new cases were also difficult to determine in the latest infographic. The island has 90 active cases, 72 recoveries, and 4 fatalities.
According to D.O.H., on Wednesday night 5,453 Covid-19 tests were performed territory-wide, with 5,036 returning negative, 249 positive, 12o recoveries and 123 active cases. Six individuals have died from the virus in the USVI: Two on St. Thomas and four on St. Croix.
