ST. THOMAS — A 58-year-old woman from St. Thomas was the 23rd person in the U.S. Virgin Islands to die of Covid-19, the Department of Health announced Tuesday night.
"After further investigating cause of death and ensuring notification of next of kin, the Virgin Islands Department of Health is saddened to confirm the territory’s twenty-third death related to COVID-19. The deceased is a 58-year old female on St. Thomas," D.O.H. said in a statement.
The announcement comes one day after D.O.H. revealed that a 65-year-old St. Croix male died of the virus.
Covid-19 cases, which have been surging in the U.S., are ticking higher in the U.S. Virgin Islands, with D.O.H. reporting 14 Covid-19 cases Friday. On Monday, the department reported 7 cases and is currently tracking 36 actives: 16 on St. Croix, 19 on St. Thomas and 1 on St. John.
D.O.H. did not say whether the victim was hospitalized at the Schneider Regional Medical Center, or whether she passed elsewhere.
