The Bryan administration will start issuing federally funded $1,400 stimulus checks later this week, Governor Bryan said during his weekly Covid-19 press briefing Monday.
"As promised, what you all tuned in to hear, Virgin Islands residents who qualify for the $1,400 stimulus payment under the American Rescue Plan will start receiving those checks in the mail later this week. So your $1,400 is on the way," the governor said.
When asked how many would be issued, Mr. Bryan said the Bureau of Internal Revenue usually issues 10,000 check batches, a suggestion of the amount that may be released later this week, although it wasn't a clearcut confirmation.
The governor said his administration has issued approximately 41,524 $600 stimulus payments to 45,000 taxpayers who filed their 2019 income tax.
He further stated that 92 percent of all persons who filed their 2019 income taxes received a stimulus payment.
