122nd Death Tied to Covid-19 in USVI Announced

The V.I. Dept. of Health has announced the 122nd death in the U.S. Virgin Islands tied to the coronavirus.

"The deceased is an 89-year-old male on St. Thomas. The Department of Health extends condolences to the family and friends of our latest Covid-19 related fatality," D.O.H. said in a release announcing the death.

The department said it continues to work to slow the spread of Covid-19 and encourages the public to become fully vaccinated and boosted. "Residents are also urged to continue following all precautionary measures by practicing social distancing and wearing a mask in crowded public areas, cleaning frequently used areas thoroughly, and washing your hands often with soap and warm water," stated the release.

As of Wednesday there were 248 active Covid-19 cases territory-wide: 157 on St. Croix, 79 on St. Thomas and 12 on St. John, according to D.O.H.  The territory's seven-day positivity rate stood at 9.96 percent.
