The Department of Health will be hosting World AIDS Day vigils on Thursday, happening in St. Thomas and St. Croix simultaneously, D.O.H. announced late Wednesday.
World AIDS Day is held on the 1st December each year and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died. World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day, held for the first time in 1988.
On St. Croix, the walk starts at 5:30 p.m. at the Basin Triangle in Christiansted to Fort Christianvaern. It will be followed by a vigil and meet and greet at 6:00 p.m. at the gazebo at Fort Christianvaern.
In St. Thomas, the candlelight vigil will start at 7:00 p.m., followed by a symbolic balloon release and reception at the Emancipation Garden bandstand. A meet and greet reception with light refreshments will follow.
