The Women's Coalition of St. Croix (WCSC) is gearing up to host its 39th Annual Women Race, a hybrid event set to unfold virtually on June 2 and 3, and then live on Sunday, June 4, in Frederiksted. This cherished event, which focuses on empowerment and healing, is a staple of the community's calendar.

Executive Director of WCSC, Dr. Clema S. Lewis, stressed the significance of the occasion: "It's a fun event with purpose. Community members come out and cheer on the women and girls; victims and survivors can participate and feel supported, here and all over the world."

The live Women Race, a two-mile sprint, is scheduled for Sunday, June 4. Awards will be handed out to the overall and age category winners who finish first, second, and third in the live event. The virtual "Women Racers," on the other hand, can complete their two miles any time over the course of Friday and Saturday, June 2 and 3. They will have until 11:59 p.m. Atlantic Standard Time, on June 3, to post their time online. The choice of how they wish to cover the distance is entirely up to them, be it running, walking, dancing, skipping, or even on a treadmill, indoors or outdoors.

The event is inclusive, welcoming women and girls who use wheelchairs to participate. Teams of five or more can also join. All participants will receive certificates for their participation.

Online pre-registration for the Women Race is currently open and will continue through June 3. Special, in-person registration will take place on May 27 and June 3. Only women and girls are eligible to register and participate in the Women Race. Pre-registration fees are set at $20.00 for women, while girls aged 13 and under can pre-register for free.

The annual Women Race was co-created by Mary Mingus, a co-founder of WCSC, and Wallace Williams, an Olympic runner and long-standing supporter of WCSC's mission, in 1984. Williams, also the leader of the VI Pace Runners, is working with the WCSC to organize the Women Race.

Proceeds from the event will directly support individuals impacted by violence and families in need. The Women's Coalition of St. Croix’s mission centers around the support and empowerment of individuals impacted by violence.
