Loggerhead Sea Turtle named Mahogany was released back into the ocean on Nov. 18, 2022. By. ERNICE GILBERT/ V.I. CONSORTIUM

A Loggerhead Sea Turtle named Mahogany which was rescued in March after being observed daily at the Frederiksted Pier, was released today in the same area it was found after being rehabilitated at the Coral World Ocean and Reef Initiative facility on St.Thomas. The rehab effort was led by Erica Palmer, Rehabilitation Manager at Coral World. The loggerhead had sustained injuries to her two front flippers and her shell as a result of a shark attack, and after being observed by the Sea Turtle Assistance and Rescue (STAR) Network, a decision was made to rescue the turtle so she could receive veterinary attention.
