Waste Management Issues 26 Citations for Illegal Garbage Disposal on St. Croix

The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority's environmental enforcement officers issued 26 citations to residents who violated disposal regulations at several bin sites on St. Croix, the authority said Wednesday.

Citations were issued for:

  • Leaving household or green waste on the ground instead of depositing it in the bins,
  • Traveling without properly securing waste with a tarp thus allowing trash to be blown into the public streets; including but not limited to,
  • Illegal dumping of used tires

Illegal dumping carries a $1,000 fine for each violation, the authority said. WMA said its officers will remain vigilant and issue citations to violators.

WMA reminded residents to place trash in its proper place to preserve the natural beauty of the Virgin Islands. WMA added that it will continue to educate the public on proper disposal methods.
