ST. JOHN — The Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency in collaboration with the Office of Senator Seven D. Payne Sr. will wrap up a series of territory-wide earthquake preparedness town hall meetings on St. John this week, VITEMA said this morning.

In response to the increase in seismic activity impacting the island of Puerto Rico, which were also felt in the U.S. Virgin Islands, VITEMA began hosting town hall meetings on St. Croix at the end of January which were continued in St. Thomas and Water Island last week.

“We were happy to see so many residents at our recent meetings held throughout the territory,” said VITEMA Director, Daryl D. Jaschen. “Each town hall meeting has brought us one step closer to building the capacity of our community to prepare for and respond to earthquakes.”

VITEMA said its staff will be on hand to answer questions and share information on what you can do to prepare your homes, businesses and communities before, during and after an earthquake. Staff will also provide technical assistance with Alert VI, including registration and account maintenance.

The community is invited to join the town halls at any of the following locations on St. John:

Tuesday, Feb. 11

  • Time: 6:00 p.m.
  • Location: St. John Legislature

Wednesday, Feb. 12
