The V.I. Territorial Emergency Management Agency on Friday announced the winners of its territory-wide Education Contest as part of National Preparedness Month throughout September.
The competition included student essays, videos, and posters. The wining students have been notified through their respective school administrators, and individual and class prizes will be forthcoming, according to the release.
VITEMA said it hosted educational activities in schools throughout the month to appeal to a wide range of age groups. Activities include a Disaster Art Contest for Grades 1st -5th encouraging elementary students to learn and share artwork about emergency preparedness.
A class video contest for grades 6th -8th on how to prepare for natural disasters led by their respective teacher, and lastly, an essay contest for grades 9th -12th on how disasters effect supply chains on a local level.
The 2022 National Preparedness Month theme was “A Lasting Legacy,” encouraging everyone to protect the life they have built by preparing for disasters.
