Governor Albert Bryan Jr. has announced the historic promotion of Virgin Islander Jeth B. Rey to the rank of Lieutenant General (LTG) in the United States Army. This milestone makes LTG Rey the second Virgin Islander in recent history to achieve this distinguished rank, marking the culmination of a remarkable 42-year military career.
According to Government House, LTG Rey’s career stands as a testament to unparalleled dedication and excellence. Having achieved 17 promotions and worn 18 ranks, he is the most promoted soldier in the U.S. Army since World War II. His ascent through the ranks is a reflection of his leadership and steadfast commitment to service.
Previously serving as the Director of the Network Cross-Functional Team at the Army Futures Command, LTG Rey now steps into the critical role of Deputy Chief of Staff / G-6, where he will serve as the principal military advisor to the Army’s Chief of Staff and Chief Information Officer. In this role, LTG Rey will oversee global command, control, communications, cyber operations, and networks, shaping the Army’s technological and strategic capabilities.
Governor Bryan celebrated LTG Rey’s achievements, recognizing both his professional accomplishments and his embodiment of Virgin Islander values. In his statement, the governor highlighted the pride and inspiration LTG Rey’s journey brings to the community:

The governor also acknowledged the crucial role of LTG Rey’s family in supporting his career, stressing the unity and sacrifice that underpinned his achievements. “Their collective strength mirrors the enduring spirit of the Virgin Islands,” he added.
Patrick Farrell, director of the Virgin Islands Office of Veterans Affairs, shared his admiration for LTG Rey’s promotion and the profound impact it has on the community.
“In concert with Governor Albert Bryan Jr., I too extend my heartfelt congratulations to Lieutenant General Jeth Rey on his promotion and assumption of responsibility as Deputy Chief of Staff / G-6 within the United States Army,” said Farrell.
Farrell noted the pride shared by Virgin Islanders who witnessed the ceremony, including the administration of LTG Rey’s oath of office by U.S. Army Chief of Staff General Randy George and the pinning of his new rank by his wife, Carla, and son, Jeth Jr.
