ST. THOMAS — The VIPD has scheduled a controlled power outage on Saturday, May 21 at 8:00 a.m. to transition to its new transfer switch for the purpose of bringing its new generator online.
The V.I.P.D. said power must be disconnected from the main transformer and will remain inactive during the connection process. As a result, the V.I.P.D. section of the Farrelly Justice Complex will be without power for several hours.
"We are asking the public for those needing assistance filing reports or complaints to please go to the Bassanio David Command, Julian Jackson Drive, 68-72 Southside Quarter, St. Thomas, or call 340 774-3445 for more information. If you have an emergency, please call 911," the V.I.P.D. said.
The police force apologized for any inconvenience the power disruption may cause, however it noted that the switch is necessary to fully prepare for the hurricane season. "We must complete these final steps now as we enter the hurricane season," the V.I.P.D. said.
