VIPD Shuts Down Mars Hill Building Due to Mold; Officers to Work Out of Mobile Unit, Other Employees From Home

VIPD Mars Hill Headquarters By. VI CONSORTIUM

ST. CROIX — The V.I. Police Department announced Thursday that it would shut down temporarily its Mars Hill headquarters due to mold. According to Toby Derima, the V.I.P.D.'s public information officer, the decision was made "out of the abundance of caution for employees in the building, is being shut down due to the presence of mold. The building will be closed for a thorough cleaning and remediation."

"All non-essential personnel have been ordered to work from home and sworn personnel will be operating out of the department’s mobile command unit, parked in the western parking lot - Mars Hill location," according to the release.

VIPD consumer services, including Records, Firearms Bureau, Permits, Police Pavilion rental, etc., will be closed until 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 29. Mr. Derima said the department is diligently working to restore daily operations.

"If there are any changes, the public will be notified as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause," the V.I.P.D. said.
