VIPD Investigates Apparent Suicide After Man Found Dead Near Market Square

VIPD Investigates Apparent Suicide After Man Found Dead Near Market Square

ST. THOMAS — The V.I. Police Department is investigating the death of a 41-year-old man found unresponsive Wednesday morning inside a building under renovation near Rothschild Francis Market Square.

Police said a concerned citizen called 911 at approximately 8:09 a.m. on September 16 after discovering an unresponsive male inside the building. Patrol officers and detectives responded and located the man on the second floor.

VIPD said the apparent cause of death was hanging, but stressed that the manner of death remains unknown while investigators await further findings and an autopsy.

The deceased was identified by next of kin as 41-year-old Chase M. Shaw.
