ST. THOMAS — The V.I. Police Department on Friday hosted a special swearing-in ceremony for the newly promoted Police Captains and Lieutenants from the St. Thomas-St. John District. The ceremony was conducted at the V.I. Superior Court St. Thomas under the aegis of the Judge Sigrid Tejo.
Lieutenants Gregory Penn and Bridget Conow received their promotions to the rank of Police Captain, a momentous occasion marking the pinnacle of their law enforcement careers. Meanwhile, Sergeants Richard Dominguez, Elton Grant, Bruce Taylor, Latoya Schneider, David Cannioner, Chadka Mayers, and Dellarise Penn were elevated to the esteemed rank of Police Lieutenant.
Police Commissioner Ray A. Martinez addressed the family members of the newly promoted officers, along with other well-wishers who attended the event. "The job now becomes more intellectually taxing and less physically demanding," he said. "I ask you to be supportive and understanding. I can assure you they're trained to be the best of the best. You should be proud of them just as I am.”
Lt. Governor Trezenga Roach also attended the ceremony, offering his compliments and congratulations to the newly minted VIPD Lieutenants and Captains. He emphasized that he has observed these officers exercise sound judgment while enforcing the law in a small community—a task which poses significant challenges.
The VIPD said a date for the St. Croix District ceremony will be announced.
