The V.I. Police Department is advising motorists on St. Croix of traffic restrictions, roadblocks and no-parking rules that will be in effect for events in Frederiksted and Christiansted between Sunday, May 24 and Friday, May 29.
The restrictions will affect portions of Strand Street in Frederiksted for the American Legion Hall Pre-Memorial Ceremony and the Senior Citizens Affair Quelbe Tramp, and sections of King Street, Queen Cross Street and Company Street in Christiansted for the CRRA Jump Up event.
On Sunday, May 24, a roadblock will be implemented from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. along Strand Street in Frederiksted, from the intersection of Strand Street and Hill Street to the intersection of Strand Street and Market Street. The roadblock is for the American Legion Hall Pre-Memorial Ceremony at the Verne I. Richards Veteran Memorial Park.
During that roadblock, no northbound traffic will be allowed on Strand Street. No parking will be permitted on Strand Street between Hill Street and Market Street beginning at 2:00 p.m. Vehicles parked in the restricted area during that time frame will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense, VIPD said.
On Tuesday, May 26, the Department of Human Services will host the Senior Citizens Affair Quelbe Tramp in Frederiksted. The tramp will begin at the corner of Strand Street and Fisher Street, continue north on Strand Street, and end at Buddhoe Park. The event begins at 10:00 a.m., and VIPD said a roadblock will be implemented at 9:30 a.m.
No parking will be allowed on Strand Street from Fisher Street to the Ann E. Abramson Marine Facility from 8:00 a.m. until the completion of the tramp. No parking will also be allowed on the northern side of the Custom House building or the UCA building from 8:00 a.m. until the event ends.
Parking will be allowed in the parking lot between the UCA and Custom House buildings.
VIPD said no traffic will be allowed onto Strand Street from intersecting streets beginning at 9:00 a.m. Those side streets will be accessible for parking only from King Street.
On Friday, May 29, restrictions will be in place in Christiansted for the CRRA Jump Up event.
No parking will be allowed on King Street from the intersection of King Street and King Cross Street, near the Florence Williams Library, to the intersection of King Street and Church Street, near the King Christian Hotel, from 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.
No parking will be allowed on Queen Cross Street from the intersection of Queen Cross Street and Company Street, near Riddims, down to the Caravelle Casino from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
No parking will also be allowed on Company Street from the intersection of Company Street and Church Street, near Sonya’s Jewelry, to the intersection of Company Street and Queen Cross Street, near Hamilton’s, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
VIPD said no eastbound traffic will be allowed on King Street from the Florence Williams Library. A roadblock will be in place from 4:00 p.m. to allow vendors participating in the Jump Up event to set up safely. All eastbound traffic will be rerouted onto King Cross Street, and only vendors taking part in the Jump Up will be allowed to pass the roadblock.
No westbound traffic will be allowed onto Company Street from Hospital Street. A roadblock will also be in place from 4:00 p.m. to allow vendors to set up safely. All westbound traffic will be rerouted onto Queen Street and around the Christiansted town area.
