The Donna Frett-Gregory Community Impact Foundation has announced an event in celebration of International Women’s Day. Scheduled for today from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the new Veterans Drive promenade, the foundation intends to celebrate the successes of women by recognizing female trailblazers in the U.S. Virgin Islands. "The event will celebrate the progress and talents of women while continuing to raise awareness as women continue to break societal barriers toward gender equality," stated the release.

International Women’s Day is a celebration of the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

Led by the DFG Community Impact Foundation President Senator Donna Frett-Gregory, a group of 6 talented women came up with the vision for this year’s event.

March is celebrated nationally as Women’s History Month and locally as V.I. History Month. The event will honor three trailblazing women for their contributions, four inspirational women will share their stories and nineteen women spotlighted for their contributions as entrepreneurs, community leaders and public servants.

“It is important that women be recognized, given the opportunity to share space and most important share their stories and connect with other women,” said Mayard Leader, one of the event’s organizers.

According to the release, the event will bring women of varying backgrounds together. When empowered women empower women, remarkable things usually unfold. “It is our goal to create such an environment, one that is supportive, nurturing and uplifting,” said Donna Frett-Gregory, President of the DFG Community Impact Foundation.

The DFG Community Impact Foundation of the Virgin Islands is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose purpose and mission are to assess community needs and provide support where needed to help improve the overall social and economic needs of our community.

The event is open, and women are asked to wear white blouses/shirts in support of International Women’s Day.
