V.I. National Guard Announces 'Day of Remembrance' and Upcoming 50th Anniversary Events

The V.I. National Guard has extended an invitation to the community for a "Day of Remembrance" to honor fallen service members. The event will take place on September 10 at the Veterans Drive Promenade in St. Thomas, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

VING is particularly inviting the families of service members who have passed away within the last 50 years to participate. Soldiers and Airmen will hold ceremonies to honor and remember VI Guard members who have lost their lives.

This occasion aligns with VING’s 50th commemorative anniversary and serves as a testament to their continued commitment to honoring the fallen and their families, according to the release.

In addition to the "Day of Remembrance," VING has announced a series of upcoming events to mark its 50th anniversary:

  • Church Service: Scheduled for Sunday, October 1, 2023, at the City of Refuge Worship Center in St. Croix, starting at 10 a.m. A live stream of the service will also be made available on Facebook.

  • VING 50th Anniversary Poker Run: Set for October 8, 2023, the route for this event will stretch from Frederiksted to Christiansted.

  • Golf Tournament: To be held on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at the Buccaneer Golf Course. The tournament will feature Links to Freedom.

  • VING 50th Anniversary Ball: This formal event is scheduled for some time in October 2023.

  • The Adjutant General’s 5K Glow Run: Slated for Saturday, October 28, 2023, in Christiansted.

VING encourages all members of the community to join in these events as they not only mark an important milestone in the organization's history but also honor the service and sacrifice of its members and their families.
