The Virgin Islands Energy Office (VIEO) has launched a program that allows residents and business owners to receive rebates of up to 40 percent on select Energy Star products purchased in the territory.

The Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Financial Incentive Program runs throughout fiscal year 2020. Under the plan, each household or small business could receive up to $5,000 in rebates until September 30, 2020, or until all funds are exhausted.

Patricia Lord, grants program coordinator at the VIEO, said the program targets homeowners, renters and small businesses by helping them to reduce their energy consumption and shrink their carbon footprint. That is accomplished by offering financial incentives to purchase energy-efficient appliances, building materials and products, Solar Rating and Certification Corporation solar water heater systems and Underwriters Laboratories (UL) approved or listed portable power stations with solar panels.

Energy Star is a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency program that promotes the development and sale of high-quality, energy efficient products that exceed federal specifications for energy use.
