The V.I. Board of Education is reminding the public that the application period for the next cycle of territorial scholarships and financial aid is currently open.
Between now and April 4, 2025, applicants are encouraged to use the online application portal for an opportunity to “access financial assistance through territorial scholarship fund loans/grants, special legislative grants, and in-service training grants,” according to Friday’s announcement from the Board of Education. These grants are “designed to support the educational dreams of bona fide residents of the U.S. Virgin Islands,” the announcement stated.
To be eligible for the programs, applicants must have graduated from a high school in the Virgin Islands, or an authorized home instruction program. There must also be a demonstrable need for financial assistance. Applicants will also need to have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 – some grants may require a minimum GPA of 2.5. Acceptance to an accredited college, university or trade school as a full-time student is also required.
Applicants will be required to have official transcripts submitted directly from their high school or university to the Board. High school graduates will also have to submit an acceptance letter from their chosen tertiary institution.
The Board of Education says it welcomes applications from all eligible Virgin Islanders who wish to “take this step toward achieving [their] educational and career aspirations.”
