The University of the Virgin Islands has announced the launch of its Job Readiness Summer Program, designed to empower graduating high school seniors with essential skills for entering the workforce.

Developed and administered by UVI's University Bound program, this initiative is a collaborative effort with Cruzan Rum Distillery and the V.I. Department of Labor, aimed at preparing the next generation of professionals in the St. Croix and St. Thomas/St. John Districts.

The program kicks off with a one-week intensive boot camp, from June 17 to June 23, 2024, offering a comprehensive curriculum focused on job readiness, employability, and soft skills development. Students will also receive instruction in economic literacy to help them navigate the complexities of the modern workforce.

Following the boot camp, students will participate in a paid work experience, providing hands-on exposure to various industries and professional environments. This practical component aims to reinforce skills learned during the boot camp while fostering real-world application and career exploration.

Rosalia Rhymer Rohan, director of the University Bound Program, highlighted the program's significance. "The Job Readiness Summer Program represents a unique opportunity for graduating high school seniors to gain the skills and experience necessary to thrive in today's competitive job market. We are grateful for the support of Cruzan Rum Distillery and the V.I. Department of Labor in making this program possible and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on our students and our community."

Space in the program is limited, and interested students are encouraged to submit their applications by Friday, May 17, 2024. For more information and to apply, please contact Rosalia Rhymer Rohan at (340) 693-1133 on St. Thomas or Michelle Albany-Crispin at (340) 692-4182 on St. Croix. Online applications can also be completed here.
