The V.I. Department of Education is gearing up to welcome back students, faculty, and staff as public schools across the territory are set to resume operations today, marking the end of the school break and the commencement of the third marking period.

In the St. Thomas/St. John District, all public schools will reopen according to their regular operational hours. School buses will be back in service, providing necessary transportation for students.

However, the St. Croix District will see a mix of in-person and virtual learning modalities. John H. Woodson will hold virtual classes from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. while repairs at the school are completed. St. Croix Central High School, St. Croix Educational Complex High School, and the St. Croix Career and Technical Education Center will initially follow a hybrid schedule. Students will attend in-person classes from 7:40 a.m. to 1:05 p.m., with an additional virtual Flex Block.

Starting January 16, these schools will transition back to full-day instruction, running from 7:40 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Student schedules for this change are already available on the PowerSchool portal, the department said.

For elementary education, Eulalie Rivera Pre-K to 8 School will operate from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. All PreK-6 elementary schools, including Ricardo Richards, Lew Muckle, Alfredo Andrews, and Claude O. Markoe, will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Additionally, Pearl B. Larsen and Juanita Gardine PreK-8 Schools will function from 8:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

To facilitate transportation, school buses will be available for students. The Department of Education urges students, parents, and guardians to prepare for the resumption of the academic schedule and wishes the school community a successful start to the new year.
