Unresponsive Male Found Between Sapphire Beach and Lovango Cay

ST. THOMAS — On Monday at roughly 3:19 p.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center received a call from a female on a vessel stating that an unresponsive male was pulled out of the ocean between Sapphire Beach and Lovango Cay.

According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima, upon arrival, officers observed an unresponsive black male lying on his back on the vessel.

A nurse aboard the vessel concluded that the male had no vital signs, Mr. Derima said. There was no apparent sign of foul play, but the investigation continues, according to the news release.

The identity of the male was being withheld as of Monday night pending next of kin notification, police said.  The cause of death is undetermined pending an autopsy.
