The Department of Labor announced Friday that a territory-wide interruption of benefit payments from the Unemployment Insurance (UI) Division occurred due to a technical issue with the electronic system.
The department said the Unemployment Insurance Division will provide an update to the public on Wednesday.
The department apologized for the disruption during the holiday season and thanked the public for cooperating during what D.O.L. described as a "difficult time."
D.O.L. Commissioner Gary Molloy said the department was working to rectify the issue. “We are working diligently to repair the issue. While we make repairs, we will be sure to inform the public on this matter," he said.
Last week, D.O.L. said a small fire at its St. Croix office forced early closure. The fire also disrupted the Unemployment Insurance system, according to the department.
