Toby Derima
Toby Derima, a longtime V.I.P.D. employee who has worked at the department for over 22 years, was announced today as the V.I.P.D.'s new public information officer, following the resignation of ubiquitous radio and TV personality Glen Dratte.
V.I.P.D. Commissioner Trevor Velinor on November 15 announced the resignation of Mr. Dratte from the position, which went into effect October 31. The commissioner noted the value of Mr. Dratte’s experience in media relations, speaking specifically to nurturing the relationship between the Virgin Islands Police Department, the public, and the media during his tenure.
Upon resigning from the V.I.P.D., Mr. Dratte joined The Virgin Islands Consortium as the media firm's vice president of sales and content marketing. He has been a mass media executive for over 30 years, with an extensive career in radio and television broadcast -- both on air and screen and behind the scenes. He worked for years in the Tri State area, Chicago and Central Florida in marketing, imaging and digital creative media, where he found great success in helping firms gain clients.
Mr. Derima has been employed with the V.I.P.D. for the past 22 years, most recently serving as a systems analyst in the agency’s Information Technology Bureau. Mr. Derima also has over 20 years of experience in media, working as an on-air personality on a local radio station, production of voiceovers and radio spots, and serving as news director for an online radio station.
Mr. Derima started his duties as Acting Public Information Officer on November 14.
