Motorists on St. Thomas are being advised of possible temporary lane closures along several major roadways during the week of October 26, as Kiewit Corporation and KHVI, a joint venture, continue preliminary fieldwork associated with the Rebuild USVI infrastructure initiative.
According to a public notice issued by the companies, crews will conduct surveys, verify and document existing infrastructure conditions, collect field data, map roadway features and gather information along public roads, shoulders, sidewalks and other accessible areas. The work is intended to support planning and preparation for future construction activities.
The anticipated lane closures will affect portions of Bolongo Bay Road, Elmo D. Roebuck Sr. Drive, Nicholas Friday Memorial Drive, Emile Francis Memorial Drive and Benburin “Benny” Stephens Drive in Bovoni.
Along Bolongo Bay Road and Elmo D. Roebuck Sr. Drive, crews are scheduled to perform fieldwork northwest of the intersection of Bolongo Bay Road and Dwight Circle, continuing southeast toward Blazers Way before returning to the starting point. Additional surveys will take place near the intersection of Elmo D. Roebuck Sr. Drive and Lime Tree Beach Road, extending toward Bolongo Bay Road and Dwight Circle.
Another work area begins at the intersection of Elmo D. Roebuck Sr. Drive and Broad Ranch Road, with crews traveling east toward Lime Tree Beach Road before returning to their starting location.
In the Red Hook and eastern St. Thomas areas, field teams will work along Nicholas Friday Memorial Drive and Emile Francis Memorial Drive, beginning at Upper Red Hook Plaza and continuing east toward Pavilion Road near Pavilions and Pools Villa Hotel. Other survey activities will occur along Nicholas Friday Memorial Drive between Benner's Hill Road, near the Leonard B. Francis Armory, and Nazareth Terrace.
Crews will also conduct fieldwork near the intersection of Nicholas Friday Memorial Drive and Clarita “Bamboula” Way, adjacent to Ezra Fredericks Ballpark, before proceeding west toward Benburin “Benny” Stephens Drive.
Additional work is planned along Emile Francis Memorial Drive, beginning on the southeast side of Point Pleasant Way and continuing southeast toward Pavilion Road.
In Bovoni, fieldwork will take place along Benburin “Benny” Stephens Drive, beginning near Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School and continuing east toward Nicholas Friday Memorial Drive near the Wayne “Facts Man” Adams Bridge.
Kiewit and KHVI said the activities are necessary to document existing conditions and prepare for future infrastructure work under the Rebuild USVI initiative. The public notice does not specify exact closure times or indicate that all listed roads will be affected simultaneously.
The companies are encouraging motorists to allow additional travel time and exercise caution when approaching active work zones. Drivers are advised to reduce speed, maintain a safe distance from field crews and equipment, watch for vehicles entering or leaving roadways, and avoid moving or interfering with traffic cones, barricades, signs or other safety equipment.
Residents and businesses seeking additional information about the anticipated traffic impacts can contact the project team at 857-575-2865 or by email at [email protected].
