The Partners for Strings Virgin Islands Youth Orchestra is offering an enriching opportunity for young music lovers aged 8 to 17. The nonprofit is hosting a free Summer Workshop starting on Thursday, June 8, on the island of St. Croix.
Partners for Strings, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in the U.S. Virgin Islands, operates the Youth Orchestra. Having held weekly sessions on St. Thomas since 2022 at the G-Clef Music Academy in Mandela Circle, this initiative marks the Orchestra's first step towards expanding its reach to the Big Island.
The Summer Workshop will take place at the G-Clef Music Academy, located in the Sunny Isle Shopping Center near Rainbow and Clara's Special Occasions. Sessions are scheduled for Thursdays and Fridays from 3:30pm to 6:30pm, and Saturdays from 1:00pm to 3:00pm, running from June 8 to July 22, 2023.
The mission of Partners for Strings is to focus on students who are at risk, underserved, or under-resourced. President Gloria Gumbs shares the vision, saying, "We essentially use music to inspire young lives. Their futures depend on us getting involved. Music is a very positive activity that will enhance their abilities and help them to become better contributors to our community."
The St. Croix Summer Workshop is a collaborative project generously supported by a grant from the Virgin Islands Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, DC. Local support also comes from G-Clef Music Academy and the VI Housing Authority.
Parents are encouraged to seize this unique opportunity for their children, especially if they have a passion for music and are looking for a positive, creative outlet this summer. Parents can register online for the Summer Workshop by visiting www.partnersforstrings.org. For further queries or more information, they can also call (340) 228-1126.
